TO FPC MEMBERS AND FELLOW BIRD DOG HANDLERS:
First let me say thank you to all who volunteered their time to make the spring test run. As one of our members suggested, It takes a village of people to make a test run smoothly.
Our April training weekend will be April 8th-9th. We will start at the water to explain the water work sequence for all new handlers to help with understanding where your training should progress from puppy test (steadiness by blind, duck search ) through quick demo’s. I will talk about the 4 parts of steadiness as judged on Utility Test Card with quick demo’s. There will be plenty of game for drags (tracking work) for pups. I hope all handlers are doing some kind of yard work; i.e. Whoa! and Healing. Both can be easily done in the yard or on walks with pup. Last quick topic will be how to place game in the field and can help each handler with pointing if needed. We will be using Field C for training, for those that have never been to Field C, continue down dirt road to 2nd tower on left for parking and we will be using field on right.
Clay pigeons will be in action Saturday afternoon for all who want to participate for $5 head; gun and ammo needed. Saturday night cookout will be in affect; bring your meat to grill and something to share.
On Sunday at 10:00 a.m. the club will host our first youth event open to all children. The youth will build wood duck boxes to be placed on the ponds at GMHT. The parts will be precut so that assembly will be all that is required. Dads and membership help would be appreciated. Approximately at noon they will be treated to a hot dog lunch and homemade strawberry ice cream provided by the club.
On final note, Danelle and I were dinner guests at a recent Vizsla hunt test this past weekend. Navhda received a warm round of applause for the club’s focus in advancing dog training at our training days. I also receive emails from new people that have come to training weekends that say their time was well spent and how well received they were. I think the club members being so welcoming and friendly to all that come is a big part of this. We truly are ONE BIG FAMILY with a common love.
Look forward to seeing everyone in April.
Sincerely,
Bill Snyder President, and the Board of Palmetto NAVHDA
